Diaper Bag Diaries

Quarantine Day 1

We are in unprecedented times. And as such, I thought it would be interesting to keep a diary of sorts to document our days and for the children to be able to read later when they are older. Per usual, I will primarily document through pictures with text for explanation.

I’ve seen the colorful charts floating around on Facebook on how to schedule out the day now that children are out of school indefinitely. That’s not me. But I definitely must have been influenced because normally on a 3 day weekend or break, I wouldn’t be so concerned about planning out activities for the kids. But if this is our new reality, we might as well start it off right.

7:30 AM: Woke up to find all of the kids out of their rooms. Already in the basement playroom watching something on Netflix. The usual.

Got wrapped up in more COVID articles and social media nonsense. Came to find the dining room turned into a nail salon for Queen Elsa.

E pours her own breakfast now. Or as she calls it, “spills” her own breakfast. Ollie feasted on fruit. The older two didn't bother with breakfast today.

Oliver is a climber now and hung out pressing buttons on the microwave & snacked while I loaded the dishwasher. Apparently the microwave vent fan is hilarious. (Yes, he does have one painted fingernail.)

9:00 AM: Figured out all the e-learning stuff for the kids and got their assignments printed out. Also printed out a fun daily printable from Legacy Learning Academy for Eleanor. I love that all of these companies are providing printables, streamable learning content, etc.

Bash is obsessed with Prodigy and got set up on the computer to play for what ended up being hours. It’s apparently a math game? So I feel like a good mom. There was coloring to be had by all and it seemed like a productive, mostly screen free, morning. Off to a good start right?

I wonder how long this will last us? With 4 kids, hopefully into the first half of next week. Maybe the grocery store clear outs would have cooled off by then?

The basement is trashed. Don’t believe everything you see on Instagram.

I think the dogs are pretty happy about this quarantine thing. Owners around all the time? What could be better?!

12:00 PM: Time for lunch. Ollie watched a streaming music class from Nanny Nikki on YouTube while Charlotte made everyone's sandwiches and we got settled in together for an online music class from Bubbles Academy.

1:30 PM: Put Oliver down for a nap, the kids went to Netflix and relax while I got some St. Patrick’s Day blog posst up and finally ate something for the first time all day.

3:00 PM: Had the kids make their Leprechaun traps before it was time for Oliver to wake up. The plan is to put Skittles and a light up ring under the hat for them to find in the morning. I won’t be able to see them find it since I work 3rd shift at the hospital tonight and won’t be back until after they wake up in the morning…

5:00 PM: Start on dinner. Ollie is rumbling around in his room, the older kids are watching something on Netflix. I have a lash fill at 6 and the salons haven’t closed yet, so I am going one last time before they do.

6:00 PM: Lash appointment. The bed gets sanitized before I lay down and the technician is wearing a mask. It probably should have always been like this…

8:00 PM: Head to Whole Foods to get ingredients for Reuben’s for the lab’s St. Patrick’s Day potluck tonight. There is no bread or sauerkraut in sight.

8:30 PM: Check Wal-Mart, no bread there either. Or toilet paper for that matter.

9:00 PM: Come home and clean the kitchen from the dinner shenanigans, lay out the leprechaun traps with their prizes inside, clean the disaster of a basement and head to work at 10:45 PM. Late, of course.

If this is Day 1, I am having a hard time imagining Day 14….
