Peanut Butter & Babies Really DO Mix!
/Peanut allergies are the WORST! In fact, all allergies are the worst. I cannot imagine what it's like to be a parent of a child with an allergy. I'm not sure how I would stop myself from going full helicopter mom and never letting my children out of my sight. Is there anything new parents can do to prevent these allergies?
Studies have shown that introducing children to peanuts and other allergens early, actually reduce the risk of allergies. And when I say early, I mean as early as 4-6 months. I know this flies in the face of what many pediatricians have been telling parents for quite a few years but peanut allergies in particular have spiked since recommendations to delay introduction emerged. The American Academy of AllergyAsthma & Immunology's LEAP study should now be common knowledge to most pediatricians but for parents with multiple children, this change may be a hard one to accept. And not to mention, babies can't eat sticky peanut butter or choke-able peanuts!
Well, that's where a great product like Crazy Richards Peanut Powder comes in. Mixing some powder in with your infants rice cereal will be the perfect way to reduce the likelihood of a peanut allergy and hey, it will also add some flavor into that bland rice cereal!
I was thrilled to attend a blogger meet up at Alchemy the other night hosted by Kimmi from Crazy Richards Peanut Butter, Premier Allergy, and 614Mom. I was so pleased to hear about the new information on early food introduction as this is something I have felt strongly about for a long time now. Of course based on family history of allergies and/or eczema, a parent should consult their doctor and allergist before introducing certain foods. But for the rest of us, introduce early and of course, monitor closely.
I also must mention that the peanut powder is divine in smoothies. I never would have guessed that I would enjoy the addition of peanut in a fruit smoothie, but of course Alchemy knocked it out of the park once again.
