Quarantine Days 9 - 12
/We’ve really hit our stride with the schedule for the day. No it’s not a color coded chart with specific times. I don’t care what time we get our day started, I don’t care what time we do each item on the “agenda.” I only care that Ollie gets down for his nap around 1 pm and that they get ready for bedtime at 7 pm.
The last few days have just shown that we have fallen into a routine of our own making without forcing it too much. The kids are usually up before me so they are already watching cartoons when I get up. Depending on what time I get up I’ll just lazily lay around with them until someone decides that we need to have breakfast and then we do that.
Since we are at the table anyways we get started on the e-learning matrix for the older two, and Eleanor works on printables from the internet and Legacy Learning Academy items. So glad I bought all these a few years back, I’m a big fan of that company.
Sometimes we throw in an outdoor adventure like listed here. And for art class we plan on keeping our sidewalk constantly decorated in chalk to brighten the day of people walking by! We probably spent 2 hours working on this on Tuesday.
When you have to run around the table helping 3 kids, that can drag out the morning pretty easily. Before we know it it’s lunch time and then nap time for Oliver and the kids can quietly do whatever they want while he sleeps. By the time he wakes up it’s time to start dinner and then we will play in the backyard or go for a family walk until bedtime. This is also when I would clean the kitchen, load the dishwasher, etc.
So, so far this hasn’t been too bad. That’s not to say there hasn’t been the fair share of screaming and crying, but I wouldn’t expect any less.
We are definitely going to be due for another grocery store run soon and I am hearing that shelves are still being repeatedly cleared by the hoarders. Where on earth are people keeping all of these supplies?
Another annoyance has been neighborhood and area Facebook groups. In one day, I can probably read 10 posts of people publicly shaming groups of people they have found congregating. (Which I 100% do NOT condone) I guess adults and teens are still having basketball and soccer games around town. As much as I don’t agree with these acts, I do NOT need to see post after post of people freaking out about it. It’s just an echo chamber of people commenting about how awful it is and how the police should be called. Has anyone ever changed their behavior about anything from someones post in a Facebook group? Curious minds want to know. I have a feeling the people who are violating the mandate are not actually in the Facebook groups that contain people complaining about it.
On Wednesday we received a lovely surprise from my BFF Christina. Giant Bavarian pretzels from Milwaukee Pretzel Co. The kids are so excited to decorate it. We plan on doing that tomorrow. Edit: We did it Friday.)
Thursday the only different thing about our day was decorating the window with rainbows and an inspirational word. Hope. I wish more people in the neighborhood participated in these neighborhood window walks. We find a few others but the numbers are becoming less and less. I do fear we are going to run out of art supplies soon and Amazon isn’t shipping anything out until near end of April.
Fair warning, if you are going to go all out and decorate your sidewalk to do the painters tape / geometric design thing? You will use up ALL of your sidewalk chalk. With kids not in school, art supplies run low quick.
Went into work Thursday night. Slight uptick in positive patients but the numbers are still very low so that’s good. The screams and whines of children make it impossible to take a nap during the day so I am very much looking forward to Sunday night when I can sleep at night again.
Can you believe Easter is in TWO weeks? With Amazon not shipping in a timely manner, these baskets are going to get pretty creative. Maybe a roll of toilet paper in each one? And I JUST realized that Oliver never got an Easter basket last year. Did I use a bucket pail? I can’t remember. Poor kid. #4thchildproblems.
Planning on digging out Easter decorations from the garage later today and decorating the giant pretzels we were sent.
Hope everyone is staying safe out there…
