Quarantine Day 2

8:30 AM: Arrive home after working all night. Make the (difficult) decision to drop off the younger 2 kids at my mother’s house for a few hours so I can get some sleep. I know technically we shouldn’t be around other people, especially over the age of 50 or 60, but falling asleep a couple times on the drive home from work told me that something worse than a coronavirus could happen if I didn’t at least get a nap in.

Come home to find Charlie eating chips and salsa for breakfast. Of course.

Lots of Netflix was watched today. Pretty typical when I have worked all night.

11:30 AM: Went to my final hair appointment at DryBar for a good scalp scrubbing which I desperately needed. They close their doors for the immediate future starting tomorrow. At least I can head into this apocalypse with clean hair.

12:30 PM: Picked up the younger 2 kids from my parents house and came home to give the children lunch and then put Oliver down for a nap. Eleanor and Oliver had already had a hearty lunch of cassava and rice which they love. It makes me happy to see them eating Liberian food and actually enjoying it. As long as we have rice, clearly the grocery store situation won’t affect us too much.

My mom had a bag of St. Patricks Day goodies prepared which we always appreciate. The kids were very excited.

Finished cleaning the wreck of a basement so it’s somewhat presentable. This is a chore that’s on the agenda at least every couple days. It’s a constant rotation deciding which room gets to be the clean one today. Because obviously while you are cleaning one room, another room is getting trashed somewhere.

Giant mountain of clean laundry that needs to be separated by family member and put away. This probably won’t happen for a few days. You know how it is.

Sebastian playing Prodigy was the only e-learning that took place all day. But it’s a holiday right?

1:30 PM: Cut out shamrocks to place in our window in preparation for the neighborhood Shamrock walk. Basically at your leisure, you and your family will go for a walk around your neighborhood and “hunt” for shamrocks in participating neighbors windows. What a fantastic idea!

2:00 PM: Tried to squeeze in another nap because I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. Before I know it it’s….

6:00 PM: At some point while I was sleeping the kids had dinner placed in front of them. Thanks Jacob. But it’s St. Patrick’s Day! I had so many treats and things planned and I also wanted to do the Shamrock Walk before it got dark. Thank goodness for daylight savings time because we still had some light to work with.

I quick made them “Shamrock Shakes” as a dessert, (2 scoops of lime sherbert + Sierra Mist) got out the cookie decorating kit from Cookies By Ivy, (local baker) and we headed out to hunt for Shamrocks.

This is pretty typical of a weekday for me. (minus the getting the kids to and from school) It’s a battle between staying awake and doing fun activities with the kids that I want to accomplish together. We can usually manage 1/4 of what I would like to, but it’s only me that knows the difference.

7:00 PM: Walk around the neighborhood with bikes. Huge mistake. Tears were shed, bikes turned over, tired legs. Your standard domestic nightmare that you saw coming but stupidly went through with anyways. Made it back home with one bike on top of the stroller and ended up going out again for a second round in the dark with green glow sticks. The kids got an even bigger kick out of the nighttime Shamrock hunt.

8:00 PM: Teeth brushed, lullabies, and bed time.

9:00 PM: J and I watch Love Island because it’s our current trash tv obsession. I fall asleep watching it, of course, and dream my way into Day 3.
